Clear Sky Food Forest Project

Picture
The food we eat in cold climates like Canada doesn't  have to be limited to meat & root vegetables!  How would you like to see apples & pears living together with pine nuts, walnuts, kiwi vines, medicinal herbs...and more?!  We certainly would, and we want to encourage more examples & research into perennial food forest systems in Canada and Northern cold climate areas.

Our goal is to to establish a working model of a cold climate food forest.  We have begun to develop a 3 acre food forest on-site  at Clear Sky Center in BC.  It will eventually include nut trees, fruit trees, medicinals, berries, vines, shrubs, timber, mulch & shelter trees.

We have already planted more than 60 trees and a variety of smaller shrubs, berries, and herbs, and have dug 7 swales to provide passive  water irrigation for these young plants.  A food forest contains thousands of plants, so we have a lot of planning & fundraising to do.  Please take an opportunity to practice generosity to this and future generations by sponsoring a tree in our food forest for $20. (see below) :)

Richard Walker, one of Canada's most experienced Forest Gardeners, is guiding the project. We are compiling a Food Forest FAQ's page based on what we learn from him.  You can learn about food forests at 0ur annual Food Forest workshops with Richard Walker or attend the Permaculture Design Certificate Course with Jesse Lemieux in April 2011.  Also, you are welcome to apply for a volunteer apprenticeship to experience permaculture & sustainable agriculture through hands-on, direct learning, combined with meditation & spiritual exploration.

Sponsor a Tree

Please support the Clear Sky Food Forest by "sponsoring a tree" for $20!   (Although anything you are able to contribute will make a difference!)   There are literally thousands of plants on our wishlist! For 2012 we are wanting to plant raspberries, blackberries, haskap, Filberts (Hazels), Legume trees, Linden, Apples, Pears as well as some vines like cold hardy kiwis and grapes.

If you would like to donate, simply post a cheque to Clear Sky Farm, PO Box 19, Fort Steele BC,
V0B 1N0. Clearly note on the cheque or envelope that it is a 'sponsor a tree' food forest donation.  Alternatively see below to make a quick and easy online paypal donation.
